hiatus and last few weeks’ of boston food goals

The posts kind of experienced a lull post-spring break. Will update with recent additions from a few restaurants I visited recently. Mostly unexciting. I haven’t had any ambitious adventures in the kitchen either asides from revisiting old recipes and maybe steamed bokchoy rice.

With this week being the last week of classes, I have Dead Week, Senior Week and escapades with friends to look forward to. It also means that the opportunities to explore food options in Boston is scarce. Hence, I decided to compile a list of places I’d want to hit before leaving:

Restaurants

  1. Oleana: already have reservation down!
  2. Toro: need to revisit one more time
  3. Neptune Oyster: for the lobster roll
  4. Oiishi: never been. Enough said.
  5. The Q: because I’ve walked by htis place for the last 4 years everytime I go to Ctown but I have yet to actually visit…
  6. Upstairs on the Square: for brunch preferably
  7. Drink: okay this isn’t really food but MUST VISIT
  8. Hungry Mother: just because it’s been on my list for so long…
  9. Sugar & Spice: small Thai restaurant in Porter Square
  10. Giacomo’s: I haven’t visited this North End place since sophomore year but would love to revisit

Need to corner friends into more food excursions!!

Kicked off my last BRW with Radius! It was surprisingly empty that night but I suppose we did go on a Monday night and our reservation was for 8pm. Seeing how it’s located in the Financial District of Boston, totally reasonable that people would just grab an early dinner and call it a night from there.
True to its name, Radius’s interior structure consists of a circular dome. The ceiling of Radius is a bit reminiscent of the Barker library dome except it’s lit with a jovial red glow. Service was topnotch and I was amused that after every meal a waitress came to clear off the bread crumbs with a special ruler-like device. I wonder if they have a designated person for that every time…Kicked off my last BRW with Radius! Birthday dinner @ Theolonious Monkfish. Well-priced, fast, and has a good ambience. We ended up sitting on a tatami mat/raised floor because of the lack of space. However, it was a very interesting experience! Reminded me of Korea and Chinese teahouses…Birthday dinner @ Theolonious Monkfish. Well-priced, fast, and has a good ambience. 부더찌거!! Success after buying a mini-tub of 고추장 from Lotte.
Surprisingly, many of the commonplace dishes are not too difficult to make. The key is really in the sauce and the preparation of when to put the ingredients in. Then again, I’m working with a very basic stew dish. I’m sure if we were to up the notch to ddeuk-baek bulgogi, the process would be much more strenuous.
